Dominique Grubisa - Legal Consultant
Barrister, Bachelor of Arts (Hons), Bachelor of Law, Master of Laws Email: dominique.grubisa@debtrescue.com.au
A barrister practicing at the NSW Bar. I was admitted to the Bar in 1996 and before that I was a solicitor.
I have a Bachelor of Arts (Hons), A Bachelor of Law and a Master of Laws.
I have noticed that many of the clients I met I could have helped a lot more had I known of their plight sooner. It was like watching people standing on railway tracks with a train bearing down on them and then having to clean up the mess. I wanted to find a way to intervene further up the track before the train hit them. But no-one comes to see a lawyer until they have been served with legal papers and by then it's too late.
It seemed to me that debt paralysed people with fear and shame until they became like rabbits in headlights. They lacked knowledge and direction. They didn't have the money to pay a lawyer and even if they did 'pass around the hat' and raise funds, there was no upper limit on legal fees or any guaranteed outcome. They were essentially writing a blank cheque for the lawyers, handing over control and crossing their fingers. Whereas, if they could have access to the law and learn their rights and options, without the high price tag involved in legal fees, they could help themselves.
